2018 Report

Personal Financial Situation

About 60 percent of area residents rate the state of their personal financial situation as good or excellent, roughly the same proportion as those who say they have enough or more than enough money to meet bills and contribute to savings. As might be expected, residents' perception of their financial situation varies directly with income, level of education and age. Strong racial disparities exist, with 66 percent of whites rating their financial condition as good or excellent, compared to only 37 percent of blacks and 52 percent of Latinos, Asians and other minorities. These figures are little changed from 2018.
